Octopus Launches ‘Octopus Fleet’ To Support Business EV Charging And Electrification

Octopus Energy has launched ‘Octopus Fleet’, a new product designed to provide businesses with a single platform for managing electric vehicle charging and wider fleet electrification. The offering brings together public charging access, payment tools, home charging solutions and on-site clean energy technologies under one system.

The launch comes as fleets continue to play a central role in the UK’s transition to electric transport, accounting for almost one in four new EV registrations in 2024. Octopus Fleet is aimed at businesses at different stages of electrification, from those introducing their first electric vehicles to organisations operating larger EV fleets.

The product allows businesses to combine a range of Octopus services according to their operational needs. These include access to Electroverse, described as Europe’s largest public charging network, providing entry to more than 1.3 million charge points across over 50 countries through a single platform.

Fleets can also use the Octopus Fleet Charging Card to manage public charging for vehicles transitioning from petrol or diesel to electric. In addition, Octopus’s Visa-powered Business Payments Card enables companies to track and manage expenses such as charging, meals, car washes and tolls.

Beyond charging access and payments, Octopus Fleet includes options for installing EV chargers, rooftop solar panels and battery storage systems. The company states that integrating these technologies can help businesses reduce operating costs by generating and storing electricity on-site.

Alongside the launch, Octopus has introduced a Home Charging Reimbursement scheme designed to simplify charging for fleet drivers who top up vehicles at home. Drivers using compatible home chargers can select whether a charging session is for business or personal use.

Octopus’s system then automatically reimburses the driver’s energy account each month for electricity used for business charging. The company says this reduces administrative burden while giving fleet managers consolidated charging data and invoicing.

Matt Davies, Director of Octopus Electroverse and Octopus Fleet, said: ”Choosing an electric vehicle is easier than ever, but every business operates differently and we’ve seen that it can be a challenge to scale up electrification efforts, and to make the EV switch a no-brainer for drivers.”

“With Octopus Fleet we’re offering a ‘menu’ of simple products that make sense regardless of how a fleet operates – with great options across public, home and depot charging, and for keeping your existing fleet running.”

Octopus has previously introduced initiatives aimed at supporting EV adoption, including its Plunge Pricing model. Integrated with the Electroverse network, the system offers discounted charging when renewable electricity supply on the grid is high.
