Supporting Energy Efficiency During Big Energy Saving Week
In an effort to encourage sustainable energy consumption and help communities reduce their carbon footprint, Central Co-op has announced a partnership with Your Co-op Energy, powered by Octopus Energy. The initiative, launched during Big Energy Saving Week, aims to provide Central Co-op Members with an easy, rewarding way to transition to renewable energy sources while also supporting local communities.
Big Energy Saving Week is dedicated to raising awareness about energy efficiency and the steps individuals can take to lower their carbon emissions and reduce energy costs—particularly during colder months when energy consumption is at its highest. Through this partnership, Central Co-op offers its Members an opportunity to switch to greener energy solutions while earning rewards and contributing to the UK’s transition toward sustainability.

A Rewarding Transition to Renewable Energy
As part of the initiative, Central Co-op Members who switch to Your Co-op Energy before January 31st will receive a £10 reward loaded onto their Membership card to spend in-store. This incentive is designed to make sustainable choices more accessible and financially beneficial for consumers. To qualify, Members need to enter their Central Co-op Membership number when signing up online.
Your Co-op Energy provides three tariff options—Fixed, Flexible, and Community Power, which is the UK’s only 100% community-generated renewable energy tariff. Each plan ensures customers can reduce their environmental impact while benefiting from competitive rates.
Powering Communities with Renewable Energy
Your Co-op Energy distinguishes itself by sourcing power from over 250 community energy projects across the UK. These projects, owned and operated by local communities, generate clean energy through solar panels, wind turbines, and hydroelectric systems. The profits from these community-led initiatives are reinvested into local sustainability projects, including nature conservation efforts and home insulation programs for disadvantaged communities.
Gillian Trickitt, Membership Manager at Central Co-op, emphasized the impact of the partnership:
“We’re excited to partner with Your Co-op Energy to offer our Members the chance to make a positive environmental impact while also saving on their energy bills. Big Energy Saving Week is the perfect time to raise awareness for energy efficiency, and we’re proud to provide a practical solution for our Members to switch to renewable energy and support community projects across the UK.”
A Commitment to Sustainability
Central Co-op has long been a leader in sustainable business practices, with a strong focus on reducing carbon emissions and supporting renewable energy solutions. The Society is actively working toward its Carbon Neutral 2030 commitment and has ambitions to become 100% self-sufficient in green energy. Its ongoing efforts include:
- Investing in renewable energy infrastructure such as solar panels across its trading sites.
- Supporting food justice initiatives through partnerships with Olio and local food banks.
- Advancing community-driven sustainability programs such as its Our Malawi Partnership, which supports Malawian farmers and producers through cooperative development.
By aligning with Your Co-op Energy, Central Co-op continues its mission of creating a sustainable society for all while enabling its Members to play an active role in the transition toward a low-carbon future.
