Leeds workplaces could cut millions of litres of shipped cleaning fluid and keep thousands of plastic containers out of the waste stream each year by switching to sustainable cleaning products.
That is the conclusion of new analysis from Smart Cleaning, a commercial cleaning firm in Leeds, which reviewed product usage across the nearly 1 million square feet of Leeds office space and compared concentrated systems with common ready-to-use products.
Concentrates reduce the amount of chemical moved, stored, and thrown away, and they do it without compromising hygiene.
One litre of a high-performance concentrate can make up to 100 trigger bottles or 50 five-litre buckets of solution.
In practical terms, a small container replaces dozens of pre-mixed bottles, then keeps replacing them, which means fewer deliveries, fewer empties, and cleaner storerooms.
Benjamin Hirst, Managing Director of Smart Cleaning in Leeds, said: “Not only do the cleaners love the concentrated formula as it gives them greater portion control, but it also uses a lot less plastic and a lot less delivery miles used.
“The perfect combination for environmentally friendly cleaning products.”
How the savings add up
Traditional sprays and liquids are mostly water. Shipping that water around the country adds unnecessary weight, cost, and carbon.
Concentrates add water at the point of use, so a single crate can do the job of many.
Concentrate systems work by supplying a powerful active cleaning formula that is diluted on-site using exact measurements. Because the end product contains up to 95% water, transporting ready-to-use sprays is inefficient.
Concentrates remove that bulk entirely, reducing transport weight while giving cleaning teams tighter control over chemistry levels. This improves safety, ensures cleaning consistency, and eliminates the guesswork that often leads to overuse of traditional products.
Across one million square feet of Leeds office space that swap leads to large reductions in packaging, transport emissions, and on-site waste handling.
The effect compounds over time, especially in high-traffic buildings where teams refill triggers daily.
“Switching to concentrates is a practical step with outsized results,” said Benjamin Hirst.
“Scale it across big buildings and multiple sites, and you cut waste, cost, and carbon in one move.”
Smart Cleaning is aiming to be carbon neutral by 2030 with electric vehicles, eco-friendly chemicals, and biodegradable materials, in line with its ISO 14001 accreditation aims.
Designed for performance, measured for accuracy
Smart Cleaning deploys the Jangro Enviro Concentrates range, including Washroom Cleaner, Kitchen Sanitiser, Floor Cleaner, and the A7 Air Freshener and Fabric Deodoriser.
Each product is used with clear dosing guidance and accurate caps, so teams add only what is needed. Less packaging, less water moved, and fewer delivery miles sit alongside high cleaning standards, which is the balance facilities managers want.
