Lambeth Climate Day Returns for 2025

Community-led event puts repair, creativity and action at the heart of climate solutions

Repair Café Lambeth has announced the return of Lambeth Climate Day, set to take place on Saturday 4 October 2025 at Lambeth Town Hall. Running from 10am to 1pm, the event aims to build on the success of last year’s inaugural gathering, which drew more than 400 residents, alongside dozens of community groups and funders.

Organisers say the day has quickly become a fixture in the local sustainability calendar, bringing together people of all ages to learn, share and take part in practical action against waste and climate change.

From awareness to action

This year’s programme includes stalls from local environmental organisations and a series of hands-on workshops hosted by groups such as Incredible Edible Lambeth CIC, Art4Space CIC, and Southstainable CIC. At its centre is the Driving Net Zero Innovation Pitch Competition, giving local organisations the opportunity to showcase bold ideas to accelerate Lambeth’s climate transition and compete for project funding.

Repair Café Lambeth will also run repair sessions, where residents can bring broken items and work alongside skilled volunteers to restore them.

“There are many initiatives which are all about awareness, and that is good – but awareness means little if it’s not followed by action. And this is what Lambeth Climate Day is about: action,” said Olga Osuch, Manager of Repair Café Lambeth. “It shows what’s possible when neighbours come together – fighting waste, sharing skills, and celebrating the amazing creativity of our community. We want people to leave inspired, hopeful, and ready to play their part in building a greener future. And of course, with a newly repaired item in hand!”

Building local climate resilience

The Repair Café movement, which began in the Netherlands in 2009, has spread worldwide as a grassroots approach to cutting waste and carbon emissions by extending the lifespan of everyday goods. Repair Café Lambeth has been active in the borough since 2017, helping residents mend items ranging from electronics to clothing while promoting skills-sharing and community connection.

Events like Lambeth Climate Day reflect the growing emphasis on community-based climate action in UK policy circles. While national targets such as net zero by 2050 dominate headlines, much of the practical progress on emissions and waste reduction is being driven locally, through citizen-led initiatives and partnerships with councils.

A family-friendly day of solutions

The organisers promise a welcoming atmosphere with opportunities to meet local changemakers, learn practical skills, and get involved in projects tackling some of today’s biggest challenges. Alongside workshops and stalls, visitors will find coffee and cake, encouraging an informal and social environment for conversations on sustainability.

The event is free and open to all, with a particular emphasis on accessibility and inclusion. Repair Café Lambeth is also inviting volunteers to sign up and offer their skills, from sewing and electronics to furniture repair.

By combining creativity, collaboration and practical action, Lambeth Climate Day 2025 aims to inspire residents to take small but meaningful steps that, collectively, can help shape a more resilient, sustainable borough.
