Hankook Tire Earns CDP Climate Change ‘A’ Rating for Second Year, Cementing ESG Leadership

Seoul, South Korea – 24 December 2025 — Hankook Tire & Technology has been awarded an ‘A’ Leadership rating in the Climate Change category by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for the second consecutive year, reinforcing its position as a global ESG frontrunner in the tire and mobility sector.

CDP, one of the world’s most influential sustainability disclosure frameworks alongside the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), evaluates companies on climate governance, emissions reduction strategies, performance, and transparency. Hankook Tire achieved top scores across these criteria, reflecting the maturity and credibility of its climate action strategy.

End-to-end climate action across the value chain

Hankook Tire was particularly recognized for its systematic greenhouse gas reduction efforts across the entire value chain, from raw material sourcing and manufacturing to logistics, product use, disposal, and reuse. These initiatives are guided by a long-term roadmap aligned with the company’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

In 2023, Hankook Tire’s climate targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), covering both its 2030 near-term emissions reduction goals and its 2050 net-zero ambition—a milestone that underscores the scientific credibility of its decarbonization pathway.

Strengthened climate governance and transparency

Climate action at Hankook Tire is overseen by a dedicated Climate Change Committee under the Board of Directors, ensuring executive-level accountability. The company has embedded climate considerations into core management decisions, supported by:

  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)-based monitoring of emissions reductions
  • Structured target-setting and performance tracking
  • Transparent disclosure of climate-related data to stakeholders

This governance framework positions climate response as a central pillar of Hankook Tire’s long-term value creation strategy rather than a standalone sustainability initiative.

Expanding sustainable manufacturing worldwide

Hankook Tire continues to scale up its sustainable material–based production system across its global manufacturing network. After becoming the first tire manufacturer to obtain ISCC PLUS certification at its Geumsan Plant in 2021, the company extended certification to its Hungary Plant in 2023 and its Daejeon Plant in 2025.

These certifications enable the use of certified sustainable and circular raw materials across original equipment, replacement tires, and motorsports products, strengthening supply chain traceability and lowering carbon intensity.

Driving low-carbon innovation through partnerships

To accelerate the transition to next-generation materials, Hankook Tire is leveraging open innovation and collaborative R&D. In 2025, the company advanced joint technology development with:

  • ROTOBOOST on turquoise hydrogen–based carbon black
  • Solvay on circular silica as a lower-carbon alternative material

In parallel, Hankook Tire is actively participating in government-funded research programs and domestic consortia to validate emerging carbon-reduction technologies and support their commercial scalability.

A circular economy approach to mobility

These efforts are anchored in Hankook Tire’s proprietary E.Circle circular economy strategy, which focuses on reducing fossil-based inputs, conserving natural resources, and steadily lowering lifecycle carbon emissions. The strategy supports the company’s broader ambition to transform tire manufacturing into a more regenerative and climate-resilient industry.

Growing global recognition

Hankook Tire’s second consecutive CDP ‘A’ rating adds to a series of international sustainability accolades, including:

  • FIA 3-Star Environmental Accreditation, the highest level awarded by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile
  • Inclusion in TIME and Statista’s “World’s Most Sustainable Companies 2024” ranking

Together, these recognitions reinforce Hankook Tire’s standing as a company translating climate commitments into measurable action—while setting a benchmark for ESG leadership across the global mobility and manufacturing sectors.
