tado° has introduced its Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen), a 17.8mm device designed to make home heating control more intuitive while helping households reduce energy use and bills. The new thermostat is compatible with boilers, heat pumps and underfloor heating systems, and builds on the company’s Matter and Thread-enabled tado° X range. Tado° says it has helped more than one million households cut energy consumption since 2011, with customers currently saving an average of 22% on heating costs. Alongside the new hardware, the company has made Multi Home available through its app and expanded access to AI Assist features, including TÜV certified Hydronic Balancing.

A Slimmer Control Interface

The Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) arrives 15 years after tado° introduced what it describes as Europe’s first smart thermostat. At 17.8mm thick, the company says the new model is twice as thin as most comparable devices. Its matte-white housing combines a minimalist LED display with a circular touch interface, while a new top button offers direct access to everyday controls.

The button can be individually configured, including to display humidity levels or activate a heating boost. The revised product is intended to offer straightforward device-level control alongside the automation available through the tado° app, an important balance for homes seeking smarter heating without losing familiar manual interaction.

A USB-C rechargeable battery is designed to last for more than one year on a single charge, removing the need for routine disposable battery replacement. Tado° has also added guided installation through its app, with the product designed to work alongside existing tado° X devices for households extending a smart heating installation.

Software For Lower Energy Use

AI Assist is available as an optional software upgrade, priced at £3.99 per month or £29.99 per year. The service uses artificial intelligence to optimise heating in response to weather conditions and the characteristics of an individual home. Its functions include Geofencing, Open Window Detection, Adaptive Heating and Pre-heat Before Arrival.

These automated settings are designed to reduce unnecessary heating while retaining a comfortable indoor environment. The approach places data-led control at the centre of domestic energy management, with heating schedules adapting to occupancy and changing conditions rather than relying solely on fixed timers.

Hydronic Balancing can be used with the tado° Smart Radiator Thermostat X to optimise a heating system more intelligently. Available through AI Assist, the feature is TÜV certified and is intended to help households unlock further energy savings through more efficient distribution of heat around the home.

tado°, stated:

“AI Assist was developed to help customers save more energy.”

Managing More Than One Property

Multi Home is now available through the tado° app, allowing users to manage multiple homes or offices through one account. The feature is aimed at people overseeing a holiday property, small office, rental property or a relative’s heating system, bringing those locations into a single digital view.

It also enables tado° products from different lines, including V3+ and X, to be managed together under one account. For property owners and small organisations, the functionality could simplify oversight of heating settings across a varied estate without requiring separate log-ins for each location.

The addition reflects the wider role of connected heating controls in giving users clearer visibility over energy use across their buildings. It also complements tado°’s platform, which spans home climate management, electric vehicle charging, photovoltaic integration and dynamic energy tariffs.

Pricing And Availability

The Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) is available now through the tado° webshop and selected retailers across Europe. The Wired Starter Kit is priced at £159.99, while the Wireless Starter Kit costs £169.99.

The standalone Wired Smart Thermostat X (2nd generation) is available for £109.99. A Wireless Temperature Sensor X (2nd generation) is priced at £89.99.

Multi Home and Hydronic Balancing are both available from launch through the tado° app, with the latter accessed through AI Assist. Every tado° X purchase also qualifies for the company’s Energy Savings Promise: customers who are not happy with their heating savings within the first 12 months can receive their money back.

More Practical Home Energy Management

With a thinner physical design, rechargeable power supply and expanded software functions, the Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) brings tado°’s heating controls into a more refined package. Its compatibility with a range of heating technologies is particularly relevant as households consider upgrades such as heat pumps and seek better control of existing systems.

The combination of hardware, automated heating adjustments and multi-property management gives users more ways to monitor and reduce heating demand. For tado°, the launch strengthens a product range focused on making lower-energy home operation easier to achieve in everyday use.
