MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd has expanded its long-running collaboration with EPIC Homes, combining new housing support with fire insurance protection for Orang Asli families in Malaysia. In 2026, the insurer supported the completion of two homes in Simpang Pulai through employee volunteering, involving 31 staff in July and 25 in September. Since the partnership began in 2018, MSIG Malaysia has contributed towards the protection of more than 300 homes as of August 2026. The programme offers a practical example of how insurance can sit alongside community housing work to help households recover from unexpected damage.
Housing And Insurance Combined
The partnership pairs EPIC Homes’ community house-building activity with fire insurance cover for homes built for Orang Asli families. This approach recognises that the value of a safe home extends beyond its completion, particularly where a household may face severe financial consequences after a fire or other covered event.
MSIG Malaysia describes itself as the country’s third-largest fire insurer, and its involvement gives beneficiary families access to financial support in the event of insured damage. The company reported that the programme had already been tested in 2025, when a covered home was damaged in a storm and an insurance claim helped pay for repairs.
Ms. Ang Yien Chia, Chief Executive Officer at MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd, said:
“We aim to give Orang Asli homeowners greater confidence that they have financial support, should unforeseen events occur. The value of this protection has already been demonstrated, such as in 2025, a home covered under the programme was damaged during a storm, and the insurance claim helped fund the necessary repairs.”
Ms. Ang Yien Chia, Chief Executive Officer at MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd, added:
“This reinforces the important role insurance can play in helping families recover more quickly and protecting the homes they have worked so hard to build. Through our continued collaboration with EPIC Homes, we remain committed to strengthening the resilience of underserved communities.”
Employee Volunteers In Simpang Pulai
Two builds in Simpang Pulai formed the latest phase of the collaboration. In July, 31 MSIG Malaysia employees, including Ang Yien Chia, joined EPIC Homes volunteers for three days to complete the first home. A further 25 employees took part in the second build in September.
Employee participation places practical labour alongside financial support, allowing the insurer’s team to contribute directly to the delivery of improved living conditions for beneficiary families. For EPIC Homes, which focuses on the indigenous Orang Asli communities of Peninsular Malaysia, this model also creates connections between urban volunteers and rural communities.
Founded in 2010, EPIC Homes states that it has mobilised more than 9,000 individuals and 200 organisations to provide safe homes for over 350 families in need. Its activities centre on relationships as well as construction, bringing organisations and volunteers into home-building projects intended to support long-term community development.
A Longstanding Community Partnership
MSIG Malaysia’s contribution to more than 300 protected homes demonstrates the scale built over eight years of collaboration. The continuing arrangement combines funding, volunteer involvement and insurance protection, rather than treating the construction of a home as the endpoint of support.
For families receiving a new home, insurance cover can provide an added measure of financial security after the build, while helping preserve an asset that may be difficult to repair or replace following damage. The partnership’s focus on resilience is grounded in both the physical quality of housing and the capacity to respond when unforeseen incidents occur.
Mr. John-Son Oei, Founder and CEO at EPIC Homes, said:
“We are grateful to continue our partnership with MSIG Malaysia, whose unwavering commitment has helped transform the lives of families through safe and dignified housing. Building a home is about much more than constructing walls and a roof—it creates the foundation for families to live with security, stability and hope for the future.
Mr. John-Son Oei, Founder and CEO at EPIC Homes, added:
“What makes this collaboration especially meaningful is MSIG Malaysia’s commitment to extending insurance protection beyond the build itself through its fire insurance coverage. This thoughtful addition provides beneficiary families with greater financial security while highlighting the importance of long-term resilience and financial preparedness. Together, we are creating sustainable impact that will benefit not only individual families but the wider community.”
Support Beyond The Build
The collaboration shows how insurers can connect their core expertise with social investment in a way that remains relevant after a community project is finished. By insuring homes built through EPIC Homes, MSIG Malaysia is supporting families not only at the point of receiving housing, but also through the period in which that housing becomes an established part of family life.
For Orang Asli households in the programme, the combination of safer housing, volunteer-led construction and fire insurance protection offers a durable foundation for greater security. As MSIG Malaysia and EPIC Homes continue their work, their partnership presents a considered model of corporate participation that links employee action with financial protection and community stability.
