Canon U.S.A. to Showcase Emerging Technologies at CES 2026 Through Canon Americas Lab

Canon U.S.A., Inc. will exhibit at CES 2026 at Eureka Park in the Venetian Expo, presenting a range of technologies and early-stage concepts through its Canon Americas Lab. The exhibit will run from January 6 to January 9, 2026, under the theme “Ideas in the Making,” and will be led by Canon U.S.A.’s Business Innovation Group.

Canon Americas Lab operates as a collaboration platform designed to connect Canon teams with external partners, startups, and technology developers. The initiative is intended to support early ideation, technical collaboration, and the exploration of future business opportunities by combining Canon technologies with external expertise.

At CES 2026, Canon will present prototypes, software tools, and applied use cases that are currently under development. The exhibit will also feature startups working with Canon on joint technical initiatives, reflecting the company’s interest in co-creation across imaging, sensing, software, and data-driven systems.

Portable Volumetric And Motion Capture System

One of the featured demonstrations is a prototype portable volumetric and motion capture system. The system is designed to capture high-quality three-dimensional data using compact and transportable equipment, allowing deployment beyond fixed studio environments.

Canon has previously developed free-viewpoint, or volumetric, video systems that convert entire spaces into 3D data using images captured simultaneously by large camera arrays. The new prototype responds to demand for more accessible 3D capture by enabling volumetric data and motion capture data to be recorded at the same time. The system uses computer graphics modeling techniques, including Gaussian splatting rendering.

The portable design expands potential use cases across locations such as sports venues, studios, and corporate environments. At the CES booth, visitors will be able to interact with the system by swinging a bat in a baseball-themed setup, with their movement captured and converted into a 3D highlight video.

SPAD Sensor And Ubicept Software Integration

Canon will also present its proprietary SPAD, or Single Photon Avalanche Diode, sensor technology. Unlike conventional CMOS sensors that measure accumulated light as an analog signal, SPAD sensors digitally count individual photons. This design reduces readout noise and supports imaging in low-light and high-speed conditions.

At CES, Canon will demonstrate the SPAD sensor combined with image-processing software from Ubicept, a U.S.-based software company. The integration is intended to enable clearer capture of fast-moving subjects in challenging lighting environments.

Potential application areas include inspection on high-speed production lines, visual perception for robots operating in low-light settings, and improved detection performance for autonomous driving systems. The demonstration focuses on how sensor hardware and software processing can be paired to address limitations in conventional imaging approaches.

AMLOS Software Development Kit

Canon will showcase the AMLOS Software Development Kit, known as the Activate My Line of Sight SDK. The SDK is based on Canon’s previously developed AMLOS remote conferencing system, which enabled multiple viewpoints to be delivered to meeting participants using a single installed camera.

The SDK breaks the system into modular software components that developers can use individually or together. These include server functions for aggregating and distributing video sources, user interface functions that support multi-view selection and custom layouts, and video processing functions that generate multiple video streams from a single camera while also enabling control of multiple cameras.

By offering these components separately, the SDK is designed to support the development of premium audiovisual products and custom applications. At the Canon booth, visitors will be able to see live demonstrations showing how the SDK can be applied to different conferencing and presentation scenarios.

Crop Cultivation Monitoring System

Canon will also present Saku Assist, a cultivation monitoring system designed for large-scale indoor farming operations. The system uses Canon’s computer vision technology to analyze images captured by network cameras, supporting early detection of plant issues and diseases such as powdery mildew.

The solution is intended to support growers managing large indoor facilities where productivity and labor efficiency are critical. At CES 2026, Canon will demonstrate how the software platform allows users to observe anomalies identified by artificial intelligence, providing visibility into crop conditions across growing environments.

Startup Collaboration Initiatives

In addition to Canon-developed technologies, the exhibit will feature a selection of startups working with Canon on technical collaboration and potential future business relationships. Participating startups include companies focused on generative AI for digital models, markerless motion capture, vineyard monitoring, medical nutrition platforms, biometric-based human state estimation, and conversion of live sports footage into 3D content for augmented and virtual reality.

The startup section reflects Canon’s interest in engaging with early-stage companies across sectors such as media, agriculture, healthcare, and immersive technology. The initiatives are presented as examples of how Canon technologies can be combined with external ideas to explore new applications.
