Monadnock Paper Mills has introduced its Un-Plastic portfolio for grocery retail, bringing fibre-based alternatives to plastic, PVC and styrene across store communications. The range covers signage, displays, wall graphics, shelf communication, tags, illuminated promotions and customer card programmes. It is intended to help retailers select materials suited to specific in-store applications while considering performance and environmental attributes. The launch comes as physical shops remain important to grocery customers, with 54% always shopping in-store at their primary store, according to FMI, The Food Industry Association.

Materials Across The Store

Grocery stores require frequent updates for weekly specials, seasonal campaigns, product launches and department changes. That makes print quality, rigidity, opacity, water resistance and durability relevant in different parts of the store. Monadnock’s range gives retailers and print partners application-specific paper options for these changing communications.

The portfolio includes Ultrahide® PC 100 Blockout Poster for window signs, hanging graphics, aisle talkers, directional signage and endcaps. ENVIsual® Board provides a rigid printing surface for point-of-purchase displays, menu boards, department signage and mounted graphics, while Envi Wallgraphics supports branded interiors, seasonal promotions and wayfinding.

Julie Brannen, Director, Sales & Sustainable Solutions at Monadnock Paper Mills, said:

“The grocery store is a highly visual, fast-moving environment, and no single substrate can meet every need,”

Signage And Illuminated Promotions

Retail wayfinding and promotional graphics are central to an easy shopping experience. FMI’s U.S. Grocery Shopper Trends 2026 report found that 69% of shoppers value an easy shopping experience and want aisles and departments to be easy to find. Store communications can support that experience by making offers, departments and product information more visible.

Ultrahide® PC 100 Blockout Poster is intended for indoor promotions where opacity and visual impact are important. For illuminated displays, Ultraform® Backlit Poster is engineered for lightboxes, illuminated promotional panels and other backlit graphics used throughout the store.

Envi Wallgraphics can be used in produce, bakery, deli and pharmacy departments, alongside other areas requiring interior branding or wayfinding. Together, these materials allow grocery teams to match graphic requirements to the location and format of each promotion.

Shelf And Product Communication

Shelf-edge and product-facing materials need to work in demanding retail settings, including produce, floral and outdoor areas. Envi Durable Tag is a water-resistant wood-fibre material for produce and floral tags, channel strips, shelf talkers, wraps, labels and signage used in grocery, garden centre and outdoor retail environments.

Compostable Card is a durable engineered board suited to bakery closures, select signage and certain gift and loyalty card applications. The range also includes Envi Card for gift, loyalty, reward, membership and pharmacy card programmes requiring a paper-based card stock.

Renovo® is designed for gift, loyalty and membership programmes where thickness, rigidity and durability are required. These products extend the Un-Plastic portfolio beyond temporary promotional graphics to customer-facing cards and product communication.

Responsible Manufacturing Practices

Monadnock states that all products in the portfolio are made using environmentally responsible manufacturing practices. The company holds an EcoVadis Platinum sustainability rating, sources FSC-certified fibre and uses Green-e-certified renewable, wind-powered electricity in paper manufacturing.

The business also operates under a third-party-certified ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. These credentials place material sourcing and manufacturing alongside the product performance requirements that shape grocery retail applications.

Julie Brannen, Director, Sales & Sustainable Solutions at Monadnock Paper Mills, said:

“Our portfolio gives grocery teams flexible, high-performing sustainable options for different areas of the store, helping them support the customer experience while making more responsible material choices.”

A Broader Retail Material Choice

Monadnock’s grocery offering reflects the need for practical materials that can support both retail presentation and frequent store updates. From directional signage and backlit panels to bakery closures and loyalty cards, the portfolio is structured around the varied requirements of the store environment.

Retailers and print partners can explore Monadnock’s materials and request product samples for upcoming merchandising programmes. The portfolio positions fibre-based materials as an option for grocery communications where retailers are seeking alternatives to conventional plastic-based substrates.
