The baby products industry is lagging behind when it comes to embracing eco-conscious solutions, according to a leading manufacturer.

Mike Fusco, Co-founder and President at Bombi, delivered the criticism upon the launch of the Rhode Island-based company’s new baby stroller, which is partially made from recycled plastic bottles.

Known as the Bēbee Lightweight Stroller, it is the first item in Bombi’s planned new line of eco-friendly baby products. More than 56 bottles worth of recycled plastic are used in the production of each unit, ensuring those bottles are prevented from going to landfill.

“The Bombi team is excited to introduce our sustainable baby gear to the juvenile products market, starting with the launch of the Bēbee stroller,” said Mr. Fusco.

“We believe the industry is behind in embracing truly eco-conscious solutions and we want to change that.”

As well as incorporating recycled materials as part of the design for its new stroller, Bombi has made a commitment to donate 1% of sales to environmental initiatives, and to eliminate single-use plastics from their packaging.

“Our mission is to create modern, sustainable products that are built to last, made from recycled materials and affordably priced,” remarked Kelsey Nolan, Co-founder and CMO at Bombi.

“We’ve eliminated single use plastics and packing peanuts, reduced excess scrap, and use fabric made from at least 50% recycled plastic bottles in all our products. We’ve also partnered with 1% for the Planet to donate 1% of sales to important environmental causes.
