Historic U.S. paper mill highlights major progress in water efficiency, waste diversion, and recycled fiber use

Bennington, N.H. – September 30, 2025 – Monadnock Paper Mills, Inc., the oldest continuously operating paper mill in the United States, has released its 2024 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report, showcasing significant achievements across its environmental, social, and governance commitments.

The report underscores the company’s continued leadership in sustainable manufacturing and ethical operations, driven by a structured framework that measures progress in key areas such as water efficiency, waste diversion, and renewable energy use.

2024 sustainability highlights

Monadnock’s report outlines a year of measurable improvements and industry recognition:

• EcoVadis Platinum Rating: Monadnock earned a Platinum rating from EcoVadis, placing it among the top 1% of over 90,000 companies evaluated worldwide. The recognition reflects the company’s consistent strength in environmental management, labor practices, and governance.
• Water Efficiency: Upgrades in equipment and process control reduced total water use by 12 million gallons in 2024.
• Waste Diversion: The mill diverted 98% of total waste from landfills through expanded recycling systems and improved production efficiency.
• Recycled Material Use: The company used 2,867 tons of post-consumer recycled pulp—a 25% increase over the previous year.
• Product Innovation:
  • Renovo™, a fiber-based alternative to plastic gift cards, made entirely from 100% post-consumer waste.
  • Stello™, a Perfect White substrate for high-end print materials such as invitations and stationery.

Certified performance across operations

Monadnock’s entire line of fine printing papers and packaging products is Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified and produced under an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. All manufacturing is carbon neutral, using 100% Green-e® certified wind energy.

Technical and specialty grades can also be produced with FSC® certification upon request, maintaining traceability and compliance with strict sustainability standards.
