Go-Pak Launches 100% Recycled Cups Ahead Of pEPR Rules

Go-Pak Group has introduced Clarity, a range of clear cold-drink cups manufactured entirely from recycled PET plastic, giving foodservice operators a packaging option that carries a green rating under the UK’s Recyclability Assessment Methodology and no virgin plastic content. The global food packaging manufacturer designed the cups for cafés, takeaway businesses, foodservice operators and grab-and-go retailers, with suitability for smoothies, matcha drinks, iced coffees, juices, desserts and bubble tea. The launch lands as the UK’s extended producer responsibility for packaging scheme, known as pEPR, shifts more of the cost of managing packaging waste onto the businesses that supply or import it. Clarity’s fully recycled composition also clears the 30% recycled-content threshold set for the UK Plastic Packaging Tax. Go-Pak positions the range as a way for operators to meet rising consumer and regulatory expectations without sacrificing the visual clarity that cold-drink packaging depends on.

Responding To Consumer And Regulatory Pressure

The case for a fully recycled cup rests on more than compliance. Research cited by Go-Pak found that 81% of consumers want more sustainable packaging, while 66% consider recyclability important when making purchasing decisions. Against that backdrop, pEPR adds a financial dimension: obligated businesses now face fees tied directly to how recyclable their packaging formats are, making the green rating attached to Clarity a practical lever for cost management as well as a sustainability credential.

A Clear Recycled Content Claim

For procurement teams navigating tender requirements and sustainability targets, Go-Pak argues that a 100% recycled PET claim removes ambiguity from packaging decisions. The company frames Clarity as evidence of a working circular loop, in which collected plastic waste is processed and returned to use as new packaging rather than displaced by fresh material.

Alexandra Forsyth-Nash, product development manager at Go-Pak Group, said:

“Clarity has been developed for businesses that want to reduce their use of virgin plastic while continuing to offer reliable, high-quality drinks packaging.”

“Using 100% recycled PET gives procurement teams, sustainability leads and tender decision-makers a clear recycled-content claim. It also demonstrates how plastic waste can be collected, processed and used to create another product, supporting a more circular approach to packaging.”

Balancing Presentation With Recyclability

Cold-drink cups present a particular design challenge: they need to stay clear enough to showcase the product inside while surviving handling from counter to takeaway bag. Go-Pak has built the on-cup message “Nothing New to See Here” into the range as a way of making the recycled credentials visible to customers at the point of sale, alongside encouraging correct disposal once the drink is finished.

Mike Bristow, group sales and marketing director at Go-Pak Group, said:

“The on-cup message, ‘Nothing New to See Here’, communicates the product’s recycled credentials in a simple way. It allows foodservice brands to make their packaging choices more visible to customers while encouraging responsible disposal after use.”

“As expectations around packaging continue to change, businesses need products that balance sustainability, practicality and presentation. Clarity has been designed to deliver across all three areas.”

Keeping Material In Circulation

Once disposed of correctly, rPET cups such as Clarity can be collected, sorted and processed into material for new products where suitable recycling infrastructure exists. That keeps existing plastic in circulation for longer and reduces the demand placed on virgin material further up the supply chain, a point Go-Pak positions as central to the wider shift toward circular packaging systems across the foodservice sector.

A Practical Response To Changing Rules

Clarity arrives at a moment when packaging decisions carry direct financial consequences alongside reputational ones, with pEPR fees and the Plastic Packaging Tax both weighted toward recycled content and recyclability. By combining a green Recyclability Assessment Methodology rating with a 100% recycled PET build, Go-Pak has produced a cup that addresses both regulatory exposure and the visible, on-shelf sustainability signal that retailers increasingly need. The range is available to foodservice businesses and packaging distributors through Go-Pak Group.
