From February 2019, the German-based social bicycle brand “my Boo” finally started distributing their high quality bamboo bikes in the UK. More than 5 years after the foundation of the company and selling their outstanding my Boo Bamboo Bikes successfully in Germany, Austria and Switzerland through more than 100 local bicycle shops, they now decided to have come to the UK and build a strong dealer network in the UK, too. A team of more than 20 in Germany makes sure that the product quality and customer service, is as high as possible in order to satisfy all customer and retailer requests. The my Boo bamboo bikes will be shipped fully assembled!
The social brand from Kiel in Northern Germany produces sustainable bicycles made out of bamboo with its partner “Booomers – The Yonso Project” a social NGO in Ghana. By doing this, my Boo combines concrete social commitment and naturally and renewable raw material with an innovative and excellent product. my Boo’s partner for the production of the frames, “Booomers – The Yonso Project” is focused on reducing the high rate of unemployed young people in the Ashanti Region and works on programs for education and equal opportunities in their region by using the income of the frame-building to provide scholarships to children. The current focus of my Boo & Booomers – The Yonso Project is on the “Yonso Project Model School” which is currently under construction. After its completion it will provide high-level education to up to 1000 children. 35 Ghanaians are employed in the frame production in Ghana, all with a fair payment, a social insurance and most important: a perspective, also for their families.
It takes up to 80 hours to produce a bamboo bike frame. The bamboo for the frames grows naturally in the Ashanti Region in Ghana.
Every my Boo Bamboo Bike is completely handcrafted and unique. They are all assembled by hand at the my Boo manufactory in Kiel, Germany, after the frames arrive from Ghana.
“Bamboo is a perfect material. It’s as stable as steel, light as aluminum and more comfortable than carbon”, says one of the two founders and CEO Jonas Stolzke and continues: “All my Boo frames are weatherproof, UV-resistent, and provided with a scratchproof varnish!”
All my Boo Bamboo frames fit the EU-Norm EN14764 requirements, are continously tested in a european lab and have a 5 years warranty!
The my Boo model range includes City, Trekking, Urban, Road and even Electric-Bikes with a Shimano Steps mid-motor. The customer can decide between a trapeze or a diamond frame and each are available in 7 frame sizes. Gates Carbon Drive belt upgrade options are also available. The retail price for a whole my Boo Bamboo Bike starts at £1.399.
