
Skyven Technologies has recorded a sustained coefficient of performance of 8.0 at its Arcturus industrial heat pump demonstration centre in Texas, a result more than 20% above the COP of 6.5 reported at commissioning. The company says the milestone exceeds its earlier roadmap target and reflects refinements to the system’s design, controls and integration. Arcturus is designed to produce industrial steam across temperature lifts from 38°C to 185°C, with corresponding COPs from 8.0 to 2.0. For manufacturers seeking to cut the cost and emissions associated with steam, the demonstration result offers a notable benchmark for high-temperature electrification.
A Higher Efficiency Benchmark
Coefficient of performance measures the useful heat delivered by a heat pump against the electricity consumed. At the reported COP of 8.0, Skyven states that Arcturus can reduce the energy needed to produce each unit of steam by roughly ten times when compared with conventional boilers.
The reported result represents the upper end of the Arcturus product line’s capability. That distinction matters because industrial sites operate with differing heat sources, steam requirements and process conditions.
