CNPC has completed its E-Light Global Green Public Welfare Initiative across Hong Kong, Bangkok and Selangor, combining mangrove restoration with sustainability dialogue and community exchange. Held from 18 to 23 August 2026 under the theme “Climate Action and Ocean Conservation”, the programme brought together more than 500 journalists, business representatives and local residents. Participants planted 180 mangrove saplings in Thailand and more than 200 in Malaysia, while CNPC also joined the 12th World Sustainability Forum in Hong Kong as a strategic partner. The activity gives practical form to the company’s stated focus on ecological protection, low-carbon development and international cooperation.

Three Locations, Shared Focus

The initiative connected public welfare activity with discussion around energy, climate and coastal ecosystems in three Asia-Pacific settings. Government, business, cultural, educational and social welfare representatives joined community members in a programme intended to support environmental action while encouraging cross-border exchange.

CNPC describes E-Light as an international communication brand built around energy and cultural exchange. Since 2025, the brand has held 20 themed events in more than 20 countries, using public welfare initiatives, public open days and cross-cultural activities to present the international engagement of Chinese energy companies.

Its latest programme placed particular emphasis on mangroves, which form part of coastal wetland ecosystems, alongside dialogue on green and low-carbon development. The combination of planting, restoration and public discussion gave participants opportunities to engage directly with local environmental priorities.

Sustainability Dialogue In Hong Kong

In Hong Kong, the CNPC E-Light brand participated in the 12th World Sustainability Forum as a strategic partner. CNPC joined a thematic dialogue with experts and scholars from home and abroad, examining pathways to sustainable development.

The company also shared its practical achievements in urban energy security and the low-carbon upgrading of energy infrastructure during a thematic sub-forum. This forum participation positioned the wider programme beyond its community activities, bringing energy infrastructure and sustainability questions into the conversation.

The Hong Kong gathering reflected a useful connection between public engagement and professional discussion. It placed CNPC’s local environmental activities alongside a wider exchange on the systems and investments involved in lower-carbon energy development.

Mangrove Restoration In Thailand

At Bang Pu Nature Education Centre in Samut Prakan, Thailand, the E-Light initiative convened local government representatives, members of the Thai community and journalists for mangrove planting and ecological restoration. Participants jointly planted 180 mangrove saplings at the site.

The Thailand programme also included the inauguration of the CNPC E-Light Cultural Exchange Center at Nawamintrachinuthit Triam Udom Suksa Nomklao, a secondary school in Bangkok. The centre adds an educational dimension to the initiative, linking environmental engagement with discussion of energy and international exchange.

Coastal Support In Selangor

CNPC’s activities in Malaysia took place at Sijangkang Mangrove Park in Selangor, where local government representatives, Chinese and Malaysian enterprises, journalists, business representatives and community residents participated. More than 200 mangrove saplings were planted to support the ecological protection and restoration of coastal wetlands.

Before the event, CNPC had donated to and renovated the park’s boardwalk facilities. That contribution supported local ecological development through improvements to infrastructure at the site, while the planting activity brought a broad range of participants into the restoration effort.

Suhaimi, director of the mangrove park, presented CNPC with a certificate of appreciation during the event. The occasion also highlighted the role that cooperation between businesses, public bodies and communities can play in maintaining and restoring shared coastal environments.

Zang Wenbo, First Secretary of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, said:

Public Welfare With Regional Reach

Across the three locations, the E-Light initiative demonstrated a community-facing route for an integrated energy and chemical company to engage with environmental and social priorities. Mangrove planting and park improvements offered visible local actions, while the World Sustainability Forum and school-based cultural exchange centre widened the scope of the programme.

CNPC said it is working with local governments, social welfare organisations and partners from across sectors to advance regional ecological protection and green and low-carbon development. The programme’s blend of ecological restoration, dialogue and people-to-people exchange offers a constructive example of how international corporate activity can be rooted in local participation.

With more than 380 mangrove saplings planted across Thailand and Malaysia, alongside new facilities and sustainability dialogue in Hong Kong, the August initiative leaves a tangible contribution across its host communities. It also reinforces the value of sustained collaboration where environmental protection, education and international cooperation meet.
