‘i have a cactus’ and the sustainable gardening mission

'i have a cactus' is leading the way towards sustainable gardening

Gardening is a great sustainable hobby that can provide you with fruits and vegetables along with flowers and trees that fill your garden with colour – but it doesn’t have to stop outside.

The Dutch cactus company, ‘i have a cactus,’ is aiming to bring the outside in and promote sustainable gardening by selling in-house and personally selected cacti from other growers.

Single cacti or interior sets, which can include over 5 cactus, are available for purchase. Yet, ‘i have a cactus’ has a focus on sustainability that goes beyond propagating greenery.

The Dutch company points out that cacti and succulents are sustainable gardening products, with some of the cacti living longer than the humans who purchase them.

The boxes and packaging that ‘i have a cactus’ ship their products in are also all recycled materials.

By working with a local café, the cacti and succulent company packs their orders in pre-used or existing boxes, including old sandwich and baking packaging, and therefore aim to use as little plastic as possible when packaging.

The company also sells jars to grow your cacti in, some of which are made from recycled materials, making sustainable gardening not just more aesthetic, but accessible, too.

“When I was twelve years old, I got my first cactus,” says Bo Pankras, Co-Founder of ‘i have a cactus’. “I still have this one!”

“More cacti soon followed and the hobby was born. I can spend hours in our greenhouse tending cacti. This gives me a lot of peace and energy.

“A cactus is a faithful companion that you can enjoy for many years with a little luck.”

The cactus company encourages customers to take care of our green world, and not only make this an activity for outside in the garden, but also one in which you can bring cacti inside to liven up your home, not only boosting mental wellbeing but also improving the planet through environmentally friendly and sustainable gardening.

“I really enjoy being busy with styling, furnishing and keeping social media up to date on a daily basis,” says Chanel Hermes, Co-Founder of ‘i have a cactus’.

“And what could be more fun than being able to do all this together with your great love? Right, nothing!”
