Omexom Wins Nes Power Station Grid Contract

Omexom has secured a contract worth approximately NOK100 million with Hafslund Kraft to deliver critical 300 kV and 420 kV infrastructure for the rehabilitation of Nes power station in Hallingdal, Norway. The programme will include new high-voltage cables, a new switchgear facility and upgrades to existing high-voltage equipment. Planning is scheduled to begin in August 2026, with the wider power station rehabilitation expected to be completed in the first half of 2033. Working alongside Linjepartner, Omexom will support a long-term investment intended to extend the facility’s operational life, increase capacity and retain renewable electricity production for decades.

Major Grid Upgrade

The contract places Omexom at the centre of an extensive infrastructure renewal at Nes power station, which has operated since 1967. Its scope covers cable, equipment and line installations, addressing both 300 kV and 420 kV infrastructure as part of the plant’s wider modernisation programme.

For a hydroelectric station entering a new phase of operation, transmission connections and switching equipment are central to reliably moving generated electricity into the wider power system. The work will pair the installation of new high-voltage cables with the establishment of a new switchgear facility, while also renewing elements of the existing high-voltage installation.

Hafslund Kraft selected Omexom on the basis of price, technical solution and delivery capability. The award recognises the specialist expertise required for complex 420 kV projects, where technical planning and careful execution are vital to the resilience of the electricity network.

Supporting Renewable Generation

Nes power station is undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation intended to extend its lifespan, raise capacity and adapt the facility to future requirements in Norway’s power system. The stated objective is to secure renewable energy production from the station for several more decades.

Coordinated Delivery Programme

Omexom will undertake the assignment in collaboration with Linjepartner. The infrastructure works will run in parallel with other rehabilitation activities at the power station, making close coordination between the parties an integral part of the programme.

Planning begins in August 2026, ahead of a delivery timeline that aligns with completion of the overall power station rehabilitation in the first half of 2033. The extended schedule reflects the breadth of the modernisation programme and the need to integrate multiple workstreams at the site.

For Hafslund Kraft, the project represents a substantial commitment to retaining the value of an established renewable generation asset.
